New Farm Gate and Instructions How to Make One Yourself!

New Farm Gate!

Once in awhile you get an idea, an epiphany

, and you think to yourself, "Why didn't we do this before?" Well, this is what happened when we went to repair our old gate, which was previously located at the bottom of the hill. Actually, there were 2 entrances into the garden, one at the bottom of the mulched steps and one at the bottom of the gravel. Kansas was the first one with the idea 'Hey, this is so open with the gate torn down, (as we were tearing it down to replace it), I wonder...." Something leapt inside me and I consulted the other members of God's Lil Acre... Was it possible to make a dog proof door that was easily opened and closed at the TOP of the hill, making for only one entrance and a more wide open space?

Our team captain on this project was Justin. He looked through our Country Wisdom & Know How book and got some great ideas!!

He took some log posts they had milled and Kansas put them in the ground 3 ft deep, surrounded by gravel and crushed limestone.

Here He is putting up the cross beam. All the wood was milled here at God's Lil Acre. The only cost for this new addition  was the sweet hardware. We will hang a sign across the top saying, of course, GOD'S LIL' ACRE!! I think the plan right now is to burn it into some wood, how cool is that?

Took a trip to Lowes to get the hinges and Justin created/ welded the most AMAZING door handle ever!!! So excited! You can open it from both sides and it has a rubber stop on the front. It works like a charm! You can see it in action in the above video!

One more look at this AMAZING, functional, BEAUTIFUL gate that just opens up our backyard tremendously! Thanks gang for all your hard work!!

Materials Used:
-2, 12 ft posts
2 gates are each 4 1/2 feet square with a cross beam for support
2 hinges and bolts
Support  Cable  and tighteners in an X shape from fence to beam
